Overview:
This online course will provide you significant exposure to the Project Management role, responsibility and process. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools & techniques to meet project activities and requirements. This business practice is accomplished through the application and integration process: Initiating, Planning, Monitoring & Control, and Closing. Competency can be applied in any field including, engineering, financial services, government contracting, IT/software development, and education. The Project Manager is the person responsible for accomplishing the project objectives:
·Identifying requirements.
·Establishing clear and achievable objectives
·Adapt specifications, plans and approaches to concerns and expectations of various stakeholders.
·Balancing the competing demands for scope, time, and cost
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
A. Apply project management tools and techniques that measure Scope, Time, and Cost (Triple Constraints).
B. Define the role of the Project Manager, Customer, Sponsor and Stakeholders.
C. Demonstrate analytical skills with online tools for Earned Value, Histograms, Control Charts, Run Charts, Central Tendency, and Cause & Effect diagram.
D. Demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary and terms used in The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guide.
E. Utilize a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to develop an activity list, schedule and cost baseline.
F. Identify the nine Project Management Knowledge areas.
G. Identify the five Project Management Process groups.
Insrtuctor Expectations
To enable your success I suggest spending a minimum of 10 to 12 hours per week participating in this course, which includes online discussions, reading articles, case studies and completing assignments. Take time to review the Syllabus, rubric and course schedule for details on grading policy and up to 20% late work penalty rules.
I expect there will be diverse views on business topics; therefore be respectful of others in the courseroom. Use proper Internet etiquette and respect. Try keeping your communications short, clear and concise.
What you can expect of me
I answer email within 24 hours and return graded coursework with feedback within 72 hours of the assignment’s due date. Feel free to contact me for questions via email for all course discussions.
I will review all peer-to-peer review and discussion boards. Therefore, it is not the instructor’s responsibility to respond to every post, but to encourage learners to take ownership in the learning process by responding to each other.
If you are having problems with your courseroom assignments due to technical or personal problems please keep me informed. Feel free to notify me regarding this issue so that we can discuss a work-around plan.
